17 million people to lose their healthcare by the end of the year for billionaire tax cuts.
NEW HAVEN – On Saturday, July 26, people across Connecticut will rise up in peaceful protest to demand our families come first—not billionaires, not authoritarians, and not corrupt politicians.
- WHAT: Families First Press Conference and Community Gathering
- WHO: Connecticut residents, community leaders, local organizations
- WHERE: Brennan Rogers Magnet School, 199/200 Wilmot Road, New Haven
- WHEN: Saturday July, 26, 4:00 PM
As part of the national Families First Day of Action, SEIU 1199NE, the Connecticut For All coalition, and community partners will hold a press conference and community event outside Brennan Rogers Magnet School in New Haven. This event will highlight the devastating impact of proposed federal budget cuts on Connecticut’s children, families, and essential services.
Those cuts will:
- Rip healthcare away from 17 million people, including children, seniors, and people with disabilities, by gutting Medicaid.
- Cut food stamps (SNAP), forcing millions of working families to make impossible choices between groceries and rent.
- Slash critical FEMA funding, leaving communities vulnerable to hurricanes, wildfires, and other disasters.
- Eliminate free and reduced-price school lunches, taking food off the trays of children who rely on it to learn and grow.
- Tear apart families of our immigrant family members, neighbors, coworkers and friends.
Locally, that means approximately 156,000 residents could lose their Medicaid healthcare coverage—potentially the difference between living a stable life and falling into crisis. Additionally, another 90,000 people could lose access to SNAP benefits. These are children, parents, and elderly members of our communities who rely on this program to ensure they have food on the table each month.
Attendees will hear from parents, educators, healthcare workers, and local leaders who are demanding that Congress reject these cuts to Medicaid, school meals, disaster relief, and other programs working families depend on—all while billionaires and special interests continue to benefit from tax breaks

We are also calling on our local lawmakers—Governor Lamont, Speaker Matt Ritter, and Senate President Pro Tempore Martin Looney—to convene a special session this fall and implement a solution to increase revenue here in Connecticut. The Rainy Day fund won’t last long if these devastating federal cuts hit our state. We need lawmakers to act now and raise revenue by increasing taxes on the ultra-wealthy in Connecticut.
This is a call to save the future of our state—for all of us, not just the rich. We are coming together to say: Put Families First. Not billionaires. Not corporate tax breaks. Not one more family sacrificed for their greed.
